Ipamorelin is a synthetic pentapeptide, a chain of five amino acids, and a selective agonist of the ghrelin receptor GHS-R1a. It was described by Raun and colleagues in 1998 as the first selective agonist of this receptor, which is why it is a common tool in receptor pharmacology.

Ipamorelin is supplied in two vial sizes. The 5 mg vial suits single receptor assays, the 10 mg vial is intended for series or for laboratories that run several cell lines in parallel. Both contain lyophilised powder under a sealed cap, with the amount and the lot number printed on the label. Ipamorelin is currently the only product in our growth hormone research peptides range. Blends with CJC-1295 or Tesamorelin are not available at the moment.

What Ipamorelin is: a selective GHS-R1a agonist

The ghrelin receptor GHS-R1a is a G protein coupled receptor. Ipamorelin binds this receptor and is used in assays that measure receptor activation, signalling and selectivity. Its sequence contains two D-amino acids and the non-standard amino acid Aib, which make the molecule more resistant to enzymatic breakdown than a natural pentapeptide. Is Ipamorelin legal to buy for research in Germany?

As of October 2026, Ipamorelin is not listed in the German Narcotics Act (BtMG) or the New Psychoactive Substances Act (NpSG) and has no marketing authorisation as a medicine in the EU. It is sold as a research chemical for laboratory use. If the competent authority classifies a parcel as a medicine, the import ban of section 73(1) of the German Medicines Act applies.
